Crisp Butter Cookie

1 cup    Butter  
1 cup    Sugar  
1   Egg, well beaten  
2 cups    Sifted flour  
¼ tsp    Salt  
½ tsp    Baking soda  
1 Cream together butter, sugar and salt.
2 Add egg and beat well.
3 Fold in flour and baking soda which have been sifted together.
4 Knead well, adding more flour if necessary to make a stiff dough.
5 Shape dough into rolls and place in refrigerator to chill thoroughly.
6 Slice dough into thin cookies and bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 400° for about 8 minutes.
Yield: About 3 dozen cookies
