Portuguese Sweet Bread

This old Hawaiian recipe came from the Island of Hawaii and is really ono!
5 lbs    Flour  
4 tbs    Yeast  
1 cup    Sugar  
1½ tbs    Shortening  
  Warm water  
1 Proof yeast in warm water with a tablespoon of the sugar.
2 Add yeast to the sifted dry ingredients with the shortening and knead 10 minutes or more. Let rise until it has doubled in bulk.
3 Punch down and form dough into loaves and place in greased baking pans.
4 Bake at 350° and test doneness at 30 minutes.
